The best of world on a budget of €15 a day…

Sunday, Bloody Sunday….. InterRail Budget Tip of the Day

Day 23 – Hamburg

Supermarkets are fifteenadayers’ best friend – and in the more expensive destinations, your only option for sustenance and certainly one of the best ways to show your hosts some gratitude. This means you need to be aware of their opening times – a shock to brits and anitipodeans is that many supermarkets in Europe close at 7pm and are not open on Sundays.

I had no idea that today was a public holiday in Germany, which means that the only places open are restaurants and more expensive supermarkets. It’s not the end of the world, but if you’re trying to free up cash for an expensive city or activity you’ve got your heart set on, it can be a bit of a disappointment.
